Badlands Rally는 반대되는 행동과 반대되지 않는 행동을 모두 해결하기 위해 D6 주사위를 사용합니다. 기어라고 불리는 각 모델은 게임에서 자신만의 특별한 특성과 장점을 구별하는 여러 속성을 가지고 있다. 플레이어들은 어떤 공격, 특별한 움직임 또는 다른 행동들의 조합이 그들을 승리로 이끌 것인지를 선택해야 한다. 주사위 역학은 적용되는 수식어에 따라 다양한 주사위 수의 간단한 롤을 통해 이러한 행동을 빠르게 해결할 수 있게 한다. 모든 수식어는 주사위를 롤에 추가하거나 뺄 수 있다. 롤에는 롤과 체크 두 종류가 있습니다. 롤은 다수의 성공을 위해 주사위를 속성(Attribute)에 단순하게 비교하는 무반대 테스트입니다. 체크(Check)는 롤에서 높은 주사위를 사용하는 플레이어 간의 반대되는 테스트로, 속성보다 다른 주사위를 기준으로 보너스를 더합니다. 각 랩마다 플레이어의 선택에 따라 4~6가지 동작을 해결할 수 있다. 표준 경기는 2-3바퀴입니다. 가변 기어 업그레이드, 기어 선택 및 시나리오에 따라 거의 무한대의 다양한 게임 조건이 가능합니다. 추가 기어 데이터 카드가 제공되어 플레이어는 드림 포드 9의 거의 모든 헤비 기어 미니어처 라인을 사용하여 게임에 더욱 다양한 기능을 추가할 수 있다. 최대 8개의 기어가 2~4명의 선수가 기본 레이스를 펼칠 수 있다.

Badlands Rally uses D6 dice to resolve both opposed and unopposed actions. Each model, called a Gear, has a number of Attributes that distinguish its own special characteristics and advantages in the game. Players must choose what combination of attack, special movement or other actions will lead them to victory. Dice mechanics allow for quick resolution of these actions through simple rolls of varying numbers of dice depending on the modifiers that apply. All modifiers either add dice to a roll or subtract them. There are two kinds of roll: A Roll and a Check. A Roll is an unopposed test which uses a simple comparison of dice to an Attribute for a number of successes. A Check is an opposed test between players that uses the high dice in a roll and adds a bonus based on the other dice compared to an Attribute. In each lap of a game a Gear may resolve between four and six actions depending on player choices. A standard match is 2-3 laps. Variable Gear upgrades, Gear choices, and Scenarios allow for an almost infinite variety of game conditions. Additional Gear data cards are provided that allow player to use almost the entire Heavy Gear line of miniatures from Dream Pod 9 to add even more variety to their games. Up to Eight Gears can race at once with two to four players being the norm.

The double-sided Rally Grizzly/Mamba, Rally Cobra/Chasseur MkII, Rally Sapeur/Iguana, and Rally Hunter/Dart Jager datacards can also be used to proxy in other similar size gears from the Heavy Gear Blitz and Arena miniature lines.
