산산조각 난 지구는 전례 없는 수의 자연재해로 세계가 황폐화된 이후, 미래의 수십 년 동안 지구를 배경으로 한 전쟁 게임이다. 지구의 지질은 영원히 바뀌어 금이 가고 부서져 광대한 바다에 빠져 죽은 육지들과 지각판의 지진운동에 의해 새롭게 형성된 것들도 있다.

멸종 수준의 자연 재해에 의해 형성된 각각의 대격변 충격파는 결국 그 문이 무너질 때까지 다른 세계의 문을 강타했다. 그 결과로 생긴 균열은 꿈의 세계인 임마테리아의 근간인 휘발성 에너지인 에테르로 알려진 난해한 힘으로 지구를 범람시켰다. 그 대가로, 물질계는 균열을 통해 피를 흘렸고, 접촉하는 모든 것을 부패시키고 질식시켰죠.

인류는 이제 이 새로운 힘을 이해하기 위해 고군분투하고 있으며, 그 힘을 파멸과 구원을 동시에 보고 있다. 과학자들은 놀라운 새로운 기술을 창조하기 위해 그것의 에너지를 이용하려고 시도하는 반면, 다른 사람들은 에테르를 사용하여 그들의 주변과 자신을 변화시키고 그들의 변덕에 현실을 구부리며 어두운 의식을 행하고 이상한 새로운 힘을 숭배한다.

Shattered Earth is a tabletop war game set on Earth many decades into the future, after the world has been ravaged by an unprecedented number of natural disasters. The geology of the Earth has been forever changed, now cracked and broken, existing landmasses drowned in vast oceans whilst others have formed anew, created by the seismic movements of tectonic plates.

Each cataclysmic shockwave formed by extinction-level natural disasters pounded against the door of another world – a mirror image of our own – until eventually that door gave way. The resulting breach flooded the Earth with an esoteric power known as Ether, a volatile energy that is the very foundation of the Immateria, the world of dreams. And in return, the material world bled into the breach, corrupting and choking everything it touched.

Mankind now struggles to comprehend this new power, seeing in it both ruin and salvation. Scientists attempt to harness its energy to create wondrous new technology, whilst others practice dark rituals and worship strange new powers, using Ether to alter their surroundings and themselves, bending reality to their whim.
