미친왕 루트비히의 성: 거대한 해자와 바비칸의 성들은 확대된 방 타일뿐만 아니라 확대된 해자와 바비칸 타일, 게임 내 타일 홀더로서 뚜껑이 두 배로 된 타일 트레이, 그리고 더 큰 조각들로 설정에 맞게 조정된 점수 트랙을 포함한다(표준 게임과 달리 트랙에 저장되지 않기 때문이다). 타일은 표준 타일에 비해 두 배(즉, 면적이 네 배) 더 큽니다.

이 확장은 특히 솔로 플레이와 컨벤션에 편리한 더 큰 곡들로 더 큰 판을 연주할 수 있게 해준다. 게임을 플레이하기 위해서는 카드, 카드 트레이, 베이스 게임의 게임 조각(플레이어 마커, 코인, 타워, 토큰 등)이 필요하다.

확장은 기본 게임과 비교하여 두 가지 게임플레이 차이를 포함한다:
1) 기본 게임의 포이어 타일(즉, 각 플레이어의 출발 타일)은 타일의 양쪽에 세 개의 입구가 있다. "의 포이어 타일;자이언트 해츠 & 바비컨 확장은 한 쪽에 3개의 입구가 있고 다른 쪽에 4개의 입구가 있으므로 시작 위치에서 더 많은 변화가 가능하다.

Castles of Mad King Ludwig: Colossal Moats & Barbicans contains enlarged room tiles as well as enlarged Moats and Barbican tiles, tile trays with lids doubling as within-game tile holders, and a score track adjusted to the setup with the larger pieces (as they are not stored on the track in contrast to the standard game). The tiles are twice as big (i.e. four times bigger in area) compared to the standard tiles.

The expansion allows the Castles of Mad King Ludwig: Collector\'s edition to be played with larger pieces, especially convenient for solo play and conventions. For playing the game, the expansion requires the cards, card trays, and game pieces (player markers, coins, towers, tokens, etc.) of the base game.

The expansion contains two gameplay differences compared to the base game:
1) The Foyer tiles (i.e. the starting tile for each player) of the base game have three entrances at both sides of the tiles. The Foyer tiles of the "Colossal Moats & Barbican" expansion have three entrances on one side and four entrances on the other side, thus allowing more variation in the starting position.
2) The optional Moats & Barbicans module have different Barbican tiles compared to the base game: In the base game, the Barbican tiles are dual-layered and overlap the Foyer pieces such that each Barbican always has an external drawbridge entrance. In the Colossal expansion, the Barbican tiles do not overlap the Foyer tiles and thus allow a Barbican without an external entrance (depending on the orientation of the adjacent Foyer tile), again allowing for more variation in the starting position compared to the base game.

This expansion was available as a bundle with Castles of Mad King Ludwig: Royal Collector\'s Edition in the Kickstarter campaign.
